Original Grateful Dead 1981 Skull in Sand Poster
Grateful Dead 1981 "Skull in Sand" European Tour Concert Poster by Stanley Mouse. An original 44-year-old poster printed by Tea Lautrec Litho for the Grateful Dead's three-week European tour in early Fall 1981. Designed by Stanley Mouse, the pastel autumn colors of this work hit on the high points of Grateful Dead iconography: a skull, skeleton parts and a red rose. Done by Mouse, this was no coincidence.
The tour went from Wednesday, September 30 in Edinburgh, Scotland through to Monday, October 19 in Barcelona, Spain. The Dead played every one of these shows, and then some: on three different occasions, the band played at the small Melkweg club in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Well actually, Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir played the first night by themselves (on October 11). Then the whole group returned to do spontaneous shows on October 15 & 16. They were very unplanned, thus not on the poster.
Poster measures 22" x 27 ¼" and grades to Very Good Plus condition, with surface creasing in various spots.
